Recent hires in the intellectual property world include Michael O’Shaughnessy joining Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney and five new litigation partners at Orrick

Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney has hired Michael O’Shaughnessy as a shareholder in Alexandria, Virginia. He was previously a partner at Baker Botts. His expertise covers patent litigation, portfolio management, patent prosecution and patent acquisition. He has experience before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, US district courts, the International Trade Commission and the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

The librarian of Congress, Carla Hayden, has appointed Judge Jesse Feder as the new chief copyright royalty judge and head of the Copyright Royalty Board – which oversees statutory copyright licences – in Washington, DC. He replaces Chief Judge Suzanne Barnett. Feder was previously a judge on the Copyright Royalty Board and has extensive experience in copyright law. In place of Feder, Richard Strasser is acting as interim copyright royalty judge on the Copyright Royalty Board. Prior to this, he was a senior staff attorney on the board. His background is in economics and finance.

A group of five IP litigation partners has joined Orrick from Fish & Richardson. David HospMark Puzella, Sheryl Koval Garko and Caroline Simons will be based in Boston, while Elizabeth Brenckman will join the firm’s New York office. Hosp and Puzella are trial lawyers with experience in copyright, media and trade mark litigation. Garko is also a trial lawyer. She specialises in trade mark, trade secret and copyright disputes. Simons is experienced in trade mark, trade secret and trade dress matters, while Brenckman handles trade mark and copyright litigation.

Three IP practitioners at Sheppard Mullin have become partners. Hector Agdeppa is based in San Diego and has expertise in the monetisation of patent portfolios, patent prosecution, inter partes reviews, licensing, due diligence and patent litigation. Rachel Tarko Hudson works in the San Francisco office. Her clients belong to the technology, retail and food and beverage sectors, and her experience encompasses advertising campaigns, contests and sweepstakes, as well as IP licensing. Siraj Husain is based in Palo Alto. He has expertise in patent strategy in fields such as software and computer science. He specialises in the building and maintenance of patent portfolios, both domestically and internationally.
