EU moves closer to final Unified Patent Court rules

A group of patent law specialists recruited by the European Commission have published their latest draft rules of procedure for the Unified Patent Court.

The draft was released at the end of January and is published on a website of UPC-related documents maintained by Véron & Associés.

On February 18 member state representatives are due to sign the unitary patent deal at a meeting of the Competiveness Council in Brussels. The Agreement says that the new Court’s rules of procedure will be adopted by an administrative committee following consultation with stakeholders. A Rules of Procedure Committee, set up by the Commission, was given the job of drawing up draft rules to speed up that process.

The draft released on January 31 is the 14th version so far.
