Creativity celebrated on World IP Day

The theme this year was “Creativity: the next generation”. WIPO marked the day with an exhibition and discussion on 3D printing.

Among the many events that took place on or around the day were:

• WIPO Director General Francis Gurry broadcast a video message.

• Microsoft published a video with two inventors talking about patents.

• Nigerian Law IP Watch profiled 16 Nigerian inventors you should know.

• EU Commissioner Michel Barnier made a statement on a seamless, integrated single market for IP rights.

• US Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment Robert D Hormats wrote a blog post on respecting IP rights.

• Article One Partners profiled five outstanding inventors.

• The Music Royalty Collection Society in Nepal held a procession.

• The Patent Registry Office of Brunei ran an infomercial competition.

There were also some people who used the occasion to question the purpose and nature of IP protection.
