Cologne-based Matthias Koch has been named as the new global practice group leader for Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer's IP/IT practice.
Koch, who specialises in both litigation and transactional work, will succeed Klaus Becher, previously incumbent since 2006. Koch, who became a partner in 2002, will assume his new position on May 1.
Freshfields has an IP team of around 70 globally, with 21 partners.
