Swedish online music service Spotify has now reached 2.5 million paying subscribers, up from 2 million in September.
The company made the announcement in a blog post yesterday, one week ahead of a widely trailed press conference in New York in which it claims that it is going to announce a new direction.
The boost in users is thought to have come after Spotify started allowing users to share songs for free on Facebook’s new entertainment platform. That move has added around 4 million free users, some of whom have converted into paying for a premium service.
In the last year Spotify has reduced the amount of music that consumers can listen to for free to try and push them to pay for Spotify Premium.
