An exclusive interview with Justice Huber of the German Federal Constitutional Court and the results of our survey on mental health and wellbeing were among the most read

FiveNovember

1)      UPC case to be decided in early 2020

November’s most read, in fact the most-read story of 2019 to date, was our exclusive interview with Justice Peter Huber of the German Federal Constitutional Court. Huber gave Managing IP a timeline for the case holding up the Unified Patent Court and said suggestions that Brexit has stalled the decision are “bullshit”.

2)      Survey: severe stress in IP profession causing major mistakes

Our second most-read was part one of our survey of in-house counsel focussing on mental health and wellbeing. We revealed that stress has contributed to major mistakes and that leadership on work-life balance must come from the top.

3)      In-house intrigue over AI-inventor guidelines

AI is always a topic that generates much interest. November was no different after the UKIPO appeared to clarify that AI cannot be named as an inventor on a patent application, sparking in-house intrigue over how applications should be drafted.

4)      Pharma IP summit: ‘Law firms should not act like law firms’

Our fourth most-read was this report from the 4th China Pharma IP Summit in Shanghai. In-house counsel from Bayer, Mylan and Sun Pharma shared outside counsel preferences and litigation strategies.

5)      In-house lawyers share strategies for educating colleagues on IP

Sneaking into fifth place was this report on educating colleagues on IP. Counsel from Nestlé, TGI Fridays, Perfumania and two other companies discussed the perks of using visual examples and sitting away from lawyers in the office.
