The KnowIt event will be live-streamed for free on 11-13 May, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Listeners will be able to enjoy all the discussions and keynotes, as well as take part in polls, Q&As and prize giveaways. A versatile collection of panel sessions are on offer, some of which are detailed below.

The Allure of Trade Secrets

Trade secrets have many advantages – they are confidential, low cost, indefinite and immediately effective. However, the recent trade secret litigation between Waymo and Uber highlighted the fact that there are also pitfalls involved in this method of protection. Some of these include weak protection in comparison with patents, and the risk of employees relaying trade secrets when they move companies. The panel will discuss the evaluation processes companies need to undertake when deciding how to protect their IP.
