The UK’s Patent Box tax scheme violates parts of the EU’s code of conduct on taxation, according to an opinion circulated by the European Commission and seen by the Wall Street Journal
The Journal reported this week that the Commission has told the UK to change the scheme, which was implemented by the government this year.
It is believed the opinion has not yet been published.
The Patent Box has been criticised by some other finance ministers, such as Germany’s Wolfgang Schaeuble.
