Collecting societies at the CJEU, patent classification and TRIPs: What’s on in the next week

Managing IP lists the intellectual property events, meetings and decisions for the week beginning June 4

Monday June 4

The General Court of the Court of Justice of the EU begins hearings brought by 22 collecting societies against a 2008 antitrust decision by the European Commission after it accused them of failing to offer EU-wide services. The Court originally held hearings last year. Since then, the Judge Rapporteur assigned to the cases, Judge Moavero Milanesi, left the Court. A new judge has been assigned to the panel of three and they will hold new hearings this month.

WIPO holds the 27th session of the International Patent Classification Union – IPC Revision Working Group in Geneva.

Tuesday June 5

Meeting of the WTO TRIPs Council in Geneva. Two new items on the agenda at the meeting are an exchange of information on securing supply chains against counterfeit goods, and a briefing by the US and Brazil on negotiations at WIPO on copyright limitations and exceptions.

Two items no longer on this month’s agenda are Australia’s plain packaging laws for tobacco (now the subject of a WTO dispute) and enforcement issues (including ACTA).

Thursday June 7
