Morocco to host diplomatic conference on VIPs next year

WIPO’s General Assembly has agreed to convene a diplomatic conference next year to finalise a treaty to improve access to copyrighted works for visually impaired people (VIPs) and people with print disabilities

The conference will be held in Marrakech, Morocco in June.

WIPO’s Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR) has been discussing the topic of copyright limitations and exceptions since 2004, with considerable progress being made in the past year.

A special session of the SCCR will be held in February 2013 to advance work on the text of the treaty.

The current draft text of the treaty reflects recent shifts in the position of some member states, but also reveals differences on issues such as commercial availability and cross-border transfer of accessible works.
