Global awards recognise IP leaders

Law firms Bird & Bird, Baker & McKenzie and Hogan Lovells were among those celebrating at last week’s Managing IP Global Awards Dinner

Bird & Bird picked up trophies for patent firm of the year in Europe and patent contentious firm in the UK and Italy, while ATMD Bird & Bird won firm of the year in Singapore.

Baker & McKenzie won four awards in total for trade mark firm in Europe, leading firm in Poland and leading foreign firm in China, while Hadiputranto Hadinoto & Partners, which is a member firm of Baker & McKenzie International, won in Indonesia.

Hogan Lovells won three trophies, including one for internet and domain name work in Europe.

During the dinner at The Dorchester, awards were presented to firms who have had an outstanding year in more than 50 categories covering 40 countries, as well as in five pan-European categories.

There were also three special awards.

Semiconductor designer ARM won the in-house team award. The company has an innovative IP-based business model that involves licensing semiconductor designs to a large number of manufacturing partners.

An outstanding achievement award was presented to Peter Messerli, the president of the EPO Boards of Appeal. Messerli has been in charge of the Boards of Appeal for 15 years and retires later this year.

Jiang Zhipei also received an outstanding achievement award in recognition of his work as the former chief justice of the Intellectual Property Chamber of the Supreme People’s Court of China.

A full list of the award winners is available here.

Further reports on each winner, and photos from the dinner, will be published in the May issue of Managing IP magazine.
