Free webinar: using data to reinvent IP management

Can IP managers learn lessons from Moneyball? Our next webinar will examine how you can use data to reinvent your IP management

Moneyball

Readers may be familiar with the book and film Moneyball, which chronicles how baseball manager Billy Beane used data to help the Oakland Athletics team punch above its weight. It’s even been suggested that Beane’s technique, as explained in Michael Lewis’s best-selling (and very readable) book, could be applied to other sports and indeed business.

Our next webinar will consider what lessons IP managers can learn from Moneyball. While I can’t promise that it will feature Brad Pitt, we have already confirmed speakers including Mark Bullard of Lecorpio and Jared Engstrom of Red Hat.

The webinar “IPnomics: Usign Data to Re-Invent Your IP Management” takes place on March 31 at 6.00 pm London time: you can register for free here.

One of the lessons to learn from Beane is that he did not create baseball statistics. In fact, he used that data that teams had been collecting for the previous 75 years.

What he did was look at the data in a new way and ask a different set of questions: which stats matter the most to win a game? which players are the most undervalued?

Some people in IP management have already begun to look at how data can be used to make their organisations more efficient, and the webinar will address topics such as:

What questions are important to ask?

How do organisations go about collecting the data necessary to answer the questions?

How should organisations use data to optimise their IP processes?

Please join us for what promises to be an interesting discussion on March 31. As usual, registration is free and the audience will be able to ask questions of the speakers after the presentations.

This webinar is the third in a series sponsored by Lecorpio. The first two were on Optimising your IP supply chain (June 10 2014) and Developing and managing the strategic IP portfolio (December 11 2014). They can both be viewed on our webinar channel.
