Find out more about opportunities in China

Simon Crompton

At the end of this month two events are going to bring Chinese and American counsel together to share their problems with working in China. The unique set-up promises to bring out some of the complexities in how mature and emerging IP systems interact.

Grand Hyatt New YorkThe events are entitled IP in China: Growth and Opportunities for US Companies. Two one-day conferences will take place in New York (at the Grand Hyatt, on April 30) and in Chicago (at the Congress Plaza Hotel, on May 2).

Unlike many other events, which might be hosted in China or the US (or indeed the UK, Germany, Canada or anywhere else that works heavily with China), there will be speakers from both countries sharing their experiences on every panel. So the 2.30pm session – Litigating in China: A practical guide – will feature both American lawyers talking about their clients’ problems, and local Chinese counsel giving their advice. So much more useful.

Congress Plaza HotelAmong the speakers coming to the events are Andrew Hirsch, general counsel of Fuelcor; Jeffrey Lindsay, head of IP at Asia Pulp & Paper; Michelle Ma, managing partner of Liu Shen & Associates; and Guoxu Yang from CCPIT.

The event is free for in-house IP and patent counsel, government officials, R&D professionals and academics. Places are available up until the day (and there’s CLE accreditation for any lawyers looking to top up their training totals).

More details on the event can be found on the Managing IP website, and you can sign up on the dedicated page.
