Australian study calls into doubt benefits of second-tier patents

A report from IP Australia found that there is little proof that Australia’s innovation patent system helps to encourage R&D or participation in the IP system

The report titled “The economic impact of innovation patents” found that Australia’s innovation patents provide only small benefits to individual inventors and SMEs as intended. Furthermore, they may also impose costs that detract from innovation.
