There were also interviews with INTA President J Scott Evans and CEO Etienne Sanz de Acedo, profiles of WIPO, OHIM, KIPO, JPO and USPTO and in-house profiles of Stephen Coates (Twitter), Jeremy Kaufman (Fox), Jill Abasto (Qualcomm) and Danielle Criona (Roll Law Group).

Away from the formal sessions, one of the big talking points was the visibility of the .sucks gTLD, which was being promoted to registrants by a mobile billboard (photo, left, by John Eastwood), handouts and free condoms. Was it effective if ruthless marketing by registry NIC, or nothing more than trade mark extortion? No doubt we will be reporting much more about .sucks in the weeks to come.

INTA - MIP booth

The Exhibition Hall was also busy, and Managing IP’s booth (right) provided copies of our silver anniversary issue, supplements, handbooks and a chance to meet our editors. We were also offering those listed as IP Stars the opportunity to have their photo taken and featured on the magazine’s cover.

Next year the INTA Annual Meeting will be in Orlando, Florida from May 21 to 25. In the meantime, the Leadership Meeting in November will be in Panama City. Read our preview to find out more about both events.
