Third-way compromise slated in unitary patent row

MEPs and member states are considering a new solution to break the impasse over whether the Court of Justice of the EU should have the final say on how the law on the unitary patent is interpreted, EU Commission official Kerstin Jorna has said
In June, member states agreed a deal on where the central court in any unitary patent system should be based. The breakthrough agreement on this controversial issue was expected to clear the way for the final adoption of proposals to introduce a unitary patent for Europe and a new system of litigating it.
But member states, understood to be responding to requests from the UK, also suggested that three contentious articles be removed from the proposed regulation to create the unitary patent.
