IP STARS Patent Handbook (2017) is now available

This year’s publication is the 21st edition of Managing Intellectual Property’s legal directory, and the biggest yet published

IP-StarsThe publication of the Patent Handbook (Global edition) officially marks the end of our research for 2017. The IP STARS US edition (which covers the entire United States) and the IP STARS Trade Mark & Copyright Handbook (Global edition) were published in May 2017.

Comprehensive and expanding

IP STARS is much more than a legal directory. Each handbook includes rankings and our independent editorial on hundreds of ranked firms, as well as listings of highly recommended IP practitioners in private practice (the IP stars) and a breakdown of their practice areas.
In the book you will also find this year's outstanding in-house (the Corporate IP stars), female IP practitioners (the Top 250 Women in IP) and up-and-coming practitioners in private practice.

This year we researched contentious and non-contentious IP work (focusing on patent, trade mark and copyright) in more than 80 jurisdictions. Over 4,500 IP practitioners (both in-house and private practice) and 1,200 firms participated in the research.

Among the innovations this year are new tables for Bulgaria, Croatia, Serbia and Slovenia, and separate trade mark prosecution tables for law firms and agencies in the UK. We will continue to listen to feedback and find ways to further enhance IP STARS in 2018.

2018 research and enquiries

The research for the 2018 edition begins in September 2017, when all the deadlines will also be announced and published here. The firm rankings, individual listings and editorials in the 2017 edition will not change until we publish the 2018 version, starting from February next year.

We can make essential changes online such as updating firm names so please contact us at research@managingip.com if you think something needs to be changed. Please also contact us through that email if you have other enquiries, feedback or ideas for IP STARS.

Lastly, we would like to use this opportunity to thank all the firms and individuals who participated this year. We are very grateful and look forward to your continued support in the 2018 edition.

About IP STARS

Managing Intellectual Property IP STARS is the leading specialist guide to IP firms and practitioners worldwide. With a small team of journalists in London, Managing IP published its first IP firm rankings in 1996, covering fewer than 30 jurisdictions.

The publication evolved year after year, including rebranding as IP STARS in 2014, and now boasts a dedicated team of research analysts in Hong Kong, London and New York. IP STARS now provides firm rankings in 80 jurisdictions including the United States. The number of countries, practice areas, firms or individuals featured in IP STARS is subject to change each year.

The publication is available in print (handbooks) and searchable online at www.ipstars.com. The handbooks are available to Managing IP subscribers and copies can be found at the major industry events we attend each year including the AIPPI World Congress and INTA Annual Meeting.

Methodology

IP STARS is produced thanks to the hard work of our team of researcher analysts. The researchers spend more than six months (starting from September each year) going through thousands of questionnaires, conducting interviews and analysing publicly available information to compile the rankings, commentaries, individual listings and Managing IP's annual awards.

The research is conducted rigorously and independently. No firm or individual can pay to be included or to influence the results. Participation in the research does not guarantee inclusion in IP STARS. To learn more please see the methodology and FAQsor for general information click here.
