Apple blocks Samsung tablet in EU

A German court has issued an injunction preventing the sale of Samsung’s Galaxy 10.1 tablet computer in most European countries

The injunction was granted this week after Apple sued the Korean company for infringing a registered Community design it owns.

The design, number 000181607-0001, was filed and registered at OHIM on May 24 2004 and renewed in 2009.

It is registered in Locarno classification 14.02 and the product indicated is "handheld computer". The images in the registration resemble Apple's iPad tablet.

The injunction was granted in Düsseldorf, Germany but designated Community trade mark and design courts in EU member states can issue pan-EU injunctions.

That appears to have happened in this case, though it is understood a separate dispute between the parties is pending in the Netherlands.

More information and analysis will follow later today.
