Digital age calls for copyright harmonisation

Delegates at the AIPPI Congress in Paris last week sent out a clear message that effective and enforceable copyright protection should be safeguarded in the digital environment

On Wednesday they passed a Resolution dealing with exceptions to copyright protection by a majority of 83%. The Resolution calls for the harmonisation of internet service provider (ISP) liability and the three-step test for deciding exceptions.

The Resolution was part of Question 216, Exceptions to copyright protection and the permitted use of copyright works in the hi-tech and digital sectors.
