Australia rethinks rules on copyright for compilers
Australia's highest court recently narrowed the scope of copyright protection for compilations and databases
Until now, organisations that compile and publish factual compilations such as telephone directories, maps and sporting guides would have thought that their compilations were protected under Australian copyright law. The recent and eagerly anticipated High Court decision in IceTV Pty Limited v Nine Network Australia Pty Ltd has narrowed the scope of that protection and may signal a shift towards bringing Australian copyright law on factual compilations more in line with the position in the US....
