The harm that counterfeiting can inflict by deceiving consumers or even threatening their safety is well documented. The development of new distribution channels made possible by the internet has led to a surge in counterfeiting in recent years, where counterfeiters use electronic platforms as another route to market. This, in turn, can damage the platform's and rights holders' brand image and undermine consumer confidence in the genuine goods and in online commerce more generally....
