What do you think about the Unitary Patent and Unified Patent Court? Law firm Wragge Lawrence Graham & Co is seeking the views of companies and professional advisers.

The firm’s survey only takes about 10 minutes to complete, and specific responses will not be attributed to individuals or organisations.

Anyone can complete the survey. The first page asks you to identify yourself as either a patent attorney or lawyer in private practice, an in-house lawyer/attorney or “other”.

Further questions concern European patent strategy and enforcement, views on the Unitary Patent and UPC and views on preparation for the new system, including opting-out

Managing IP’s recent survey (which was directed at in-house counsel only) found surprising support for the proposed system but a need for more information on costs.

Since then, there have been important developments, including regarding the renewal an court fees. We will update that survey in the light of recent developments and run it again before the summer.

A survey of in-house counsel commissioned by Allen & Overy, published in June last year, found that 49% would opt-in at least some of their patents to the UPC.
