Jimmy Kwok reveals HP's strategies for fighting fakes in China

Jimmy Kwok, HP’s senior manager of company security for north Asia, tells Peter Leung about managing his investigation teams, the challenges of fighting counterfeits on the internet and tactics for raiding counterfeiters hiding in China’s military zones
What did you do before you joined HP?
I was in law enforcement for about 20 years in Hong Kong and Canada. I also worked in the Canadian embassy in Beijing for about five years, coordinating investigations into various types of crimes. My background was mostly in investigating organised crime.
What are your responsibilities?
I am in charge of HP’s anti-counterfeit programme, which is part of the brand protection programme. HP is a large business with many different product lines and I oversee investigations in all of them.
One of the big reasons for a company to invest in anti-counterfeiting is to gain marketshare. A big part of our anti-counterfeiting division is funded by our supply division, so that is a significant part of the programme.
