A spokesperson for the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit has confirmed that Judge Arthur Gajarsa has resigned his commission as a member of the federal judiciary.

Before being appointed as a circuit judge by President Bill Clinton in 1997, Gajarsa was a lawyer specialising in intellectual property. Most recently, he was a partner of the Washington, DC firm Joseph Gajarsa McDermott & Reiner from 1987 to 1997.

His previous positions include working as a partner of Wender Murase & White and serving as an attorney for the US Department of Defense, focusing on systems analysis and IP rights. He has also been an adjunct professor at the Georgetown University Law Center since 2003.

Gajarsa assumed senior status in July 2011 and is succeeded by Judge Evan Wallach.
