Kenyan IP lawyer killed in her home

Kenyan police are investigating whether the murder of an IP lawyer on Friday evening is linked to any of the cases that she was working on

A gang of three men broke into the Nairobi home of Rose Waruinge, shooting her dead, according to officials. Police said the gang demanded money before a scuffle broke out, and Waruinge was then killed.

Bernard Muli of the Kilimani police department said the men then ransacked the house and stole valuables before escaping.

Waruinge, who worked at Wariunge & Wariunge Advocates, was also a member of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK). Other members there say that they are unsure if Waruinge’s murder is linked to her work in IP cases.

“We see no motive at the moment,” said a spokesman for the LSK. He said there has been increasing violence towards Kenyan lawyers, explaining that Anthony Nahashon Ngunjiri was killed in September.

The spokesman said the LSK council will be meeting today to discuss the next steps following Waruinge’s murder.
