Mega Brands drops Lego lawsuit

23 January 2012

Canadian toy maker Mega Brands has withdrawn a lawsuit against rival Lego just a week after it began legal action against the Danish company in California.

Mega Brands, the company behind Mega Bloc toy building bricks, said on Friday that it had withdrawn an action in the US District Court in the Central District of California in which it had sought to invalidate what it described as the Danish company’s 1999 US functional trade mark.

The company was reacting to a decision by US Customs to restrict imports of some of Mega Brands’ own toy brick products. Mega Brands said it wanted the court to issue a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction to ensure that imports of its own products were not affected by Lego’s trade mark.

Now Mega Brands says it has received formal confirmation that US Customs will not prevent imports of its products into the US.
