EPO figures show changing fortunes of patent filers

More patents than ever were filed at the EPO last year, but the upward trend masks the shifting fortunes of developed and emerging economies

The Office says it received 243,000 applications in 2011, up 3% on the year before. Although there are no movers within the top 10 countries in the list of the biggest filers by country of origin, the individual countries performed very differently.
