Sisvel has bought 450 patents from Nokia in a deal that sees the company, which specialises in licensing patents, strengthen its portfolio of rights to wireless standards technology.
Sisvel, a non-practising entity, says that Nokia has already declared more than 350 of the patents and applications essential to 2G, 3G and 4G telecoms standards. The rest of the portfolio relates to implementation patents including video optimisation technologies.
The patents are subject to certain prior agreements and Nokia is licensed under the portfolio as part of the deal.
Giustino de Sanctis, CEO of Sisvel International, said that the company would offer the essential patents on FRAND terms.
