With the European Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee set to discuss the unitary patent package next week, Emma Barraclough speaks to MEP Cecilia Wikström
Swedish MEP Cecilia Wikström is a member of the European Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee and shadow rapporteur on the patent regulation and court agreement for the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE Group).
She explains what may happen next with the patent package and why she believes IP owners must continue to lobby their leaders.

What is the timetable for the patent package?
The European Parliament’s Juris [Legal Affairs] Committee will discuss the report at its meeting on Monday and Tuesday. At the moment I am not sure if we are voting on the whole report or whether there will be an opportunity to vote on individual amendments.
The Council of Ministers is due to reach agreement on December 22. If they do agree then there will be a plenary vote by MEPs in February. That’s the dream scenario but of course nothing...
