YouTube in copyright payment tie-up

13 December 2011

YouTube owner Google has strengthened its copyright credentials by buying a business that helps IP owners and online music services manage their music rights.

YouTube revealed the deal to buy RightsFlow on its blog on Friday.

Rightsflow says it provides a platform for mechanical licensing and royalty payments for online music services, record companies, distributors and artists.

“By combining RightsFlow’s expertise and technology with YouTube’s platform, we hope to more rapidly and efficiently license music on YouTube, meaning more music for you all to enjoy, and more money for the talented people producing the music,” wrote YouTube product manager David King.
