Despite Hong Kong being hit by a typhoon, in-house counsel from LVMH, Nokia and Estée Lauder were among those that discussed how best to measure and operate IP enforcement at the Asia-Pacific IP Forum.
"One way to assess success on criminal enforcement is that if we perform one raid, one person should go to jail. Ideally, the ratio should be one to one," said Mayank Vaid, Asia-Pacific IP enforcement director at LVMH.
"On the civil side, [success is measured] by a value or ratio on how much money can be recovered. This can range from jurisdiction to jurisdiction by about 30% to 60%," he added.
Vaid, who is not responsible for enforcement in China, said that LVMH conducted an average of 27 raids a day worldwide in 2010. But he admitted that it...
