WIPO has defended the UDRP and stressed that an ICANN reform of the policy would be "institutionally reckless".
In a letter to ICANN dated July 15, Eric Wilbers, director of WIPO's Arbitration and Media Center, said that cybersquatting should be targeted, not the UDRP. He argued that the scope for abuse has been "vastly extended" by the approval of the new gTLD programme.
The comment period for ICANN's preliminary issue report on the current state of the UDRP ends on July 22.
