Trade mark specialist Owen Dean has retired from the partnership of Spoor & Fisher in South Africa and will take up the new position of chair of intellectual property at the University of Stellenbosch.
He will take up the position, named the Anton Mostert Chair, on July 1 and says he aims to create a centre of excellence in IP at the University, both nationally and internationally.
The University is also organising an international conference on IP on September 1 and 2.
Dean, who is an particularly known for his experience in ambush marketing legislation, will remain a consultant to Spoor & Fisher, advising certain clients.
