Defiant Icann ignores brand owners’ concerns

Icann’s final Applicant Guidebook for new gTLDs, released today, offers few new concessions to the interests of trade mark owners
The release of the Guidebook was accompanied by a statement reiterating Icann's determination to put the proposed gTLD programme before its Board for approval on June 20 during the Corporation's next international meeting in Singapore.
Icann published draft 6 of its Applicant Guidebook on April 15 and received 46 comments by the May 15 deadline, with 14 more submissions arriving late.
Despite many of these comments and Icann's own government advisory committee (GAC) expressing strong reservations over flaws in the protection mechanisms available for trade mark owners during the launch of new gTLDs, Icann has made few changes.
