Managing Internet Intellectual Property

The latest version of MarkMonitor’s Brandjacking survey illustrated how online counterfeiters use paid-search advertising or keywords to drive traffic to their sites.

Using 280 keyword combinations triggered almost 480,000 paid search ads. Of these MarkMonitor estimated that 28% or 130,000 ads promo ted suspicious goods.

In total the study found 6,000 suspects selling more than 1.2 million shirts or jerseys online, with the company estimating $25 million in revenue.
