USPTO launches PPH with SIPO
The USPTO has launched a pilot patent prosecution highway (PPH) with China's State Intellectual Property Office. The pilot was signed as part of a comprehensive memorandum of understanding agreed with SIPO in May. The MOU also involves comprehensive bilateral cooperation on patents and worksharing programmes to reduce the growing backlog of patents.

Green light for Whiskas purple trade mark
After almost eight years, Mars Australia has managed to obtain a trade mark registration for the colour purple for cat food. At the end of June the Federal Court of Australia ruled that the specific shade of Whiskas purple should be registered for cat food and additives for cat food.

In November 2002 Effem Foods (which later became Mars Australia) applied to register a specific shade of purple for "foodstuffs for cats and kittens and additives for such foods". IP Australia accepted the...
