Europe’s top court to clarify software copyright rules

A UK judge is to ask Europe’s top court to clarify the law on copyright in software in a dispute between a company that makes computer programs for statistical analysis and a commercial rival

Ruling in SAS Institute, Inc v World Programming Limited on Friday, High Court judge Mr Justice Arnold said that guidance from the Court of Justice of the EU (CJ) is required on a number of legal areas raised in the dispute, which began when SAS accused WPL of infringing its copyright in manuals for its analytical software...
