News round-up: .xxx whips up a media storm, Whois is trade marked, Piratbyran disband and CSC launches new service

This week the .xxx decision from the Icann Board yielded more coverage than usual for domains, a company trade marked the word Whois and the Pirate Bay founders disbanded

Media frenzy over .xxx

It is not often that Icann manages to slip into the mainstream media, but the recent decision on .xxx has attracted an inevitable wedge of coverage, much of it inaccurate.

The pick of the lot was highlighted by the Register. Barbara Ellen, writing in the British Sunday newspaper the Observer, misunderstood what the Icann Board's decision on .xxx meant to the point that she seemed to think that .xxx was going to replace www at the start of domains.
