Public order test unworkable, says GAC

The morality and public order test for new gTLDs is unworkable, says the Governmental Advisory Committee, in a move that could further delay the launch of new gTLDs

In a series of discussions the Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC), including with the At Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) and the Icann Board on Tuesday June 22 at the Icann meeting in Brussels, the GAC made it clear that it thinks the proposed morality and public order test is unworkable. The ALAC group broadly agreed.

In frank exchanges with the Board - which also involved debates over what constitutes advice from the GAC to the Board - the government body made it clear that it feels the warnings on morality and public order it has made since March 2007 have been ignored.
