Counterfeiters cash in on World Cup

Research suggests that 20% of World Cup merchandise sold in the UK during the tournament will be counterfeit, while one-in-four consumers said they would buy fake jerseys

It is hard to escape that the Football World Cup in South Africa due to kick off in two days: the media coverage grows by the day, while the ads in between reports are dominated by sponsors of the tournament and individual teams who are trying to capitalise on the positive association sponsorship can bring.

As always counterfeiters lurk in the background...
