iPad launch prompts licensing deals

The first consumers will get their hands on the Apple iPad this Saturday, and the company has agreed deals with a number of copyright owners to ensure they will have plenty to read
Media deals enabling readers to access books, magazines, newspapers as well as audio and video content will be key to making the device a success. But Apple has only allowed a small number of titles to work with the iPad before its release.
The
New York Times
and
Time
magazine are two. Both featured in the demonstration by Apple CEO Steve Jobs at the unveiling of the iPad last January.
