Icann Board backs TM protection proposals

12 March 2010

Fionn O'Raghallaigh, London

Icann’s Board has indicated it is willing to move on the rights protection measures for new gTLDs, even though the subject was not on its agenda this week

At its meeting in Nairobi today, March 12, the Icann Board indicated its support for trade mark protections in new gTLDs and instructed staff to start the final drafts for the trade mark clearing house, a unified rapid suspension process, a post-delegation dispute resolution procedure (PDDRP) and the registry restriction dispute resolution procedure (RRDRP).

The trade mark measures were not originally on the Board's agenda for its meeting, and the implication is that the Board is preparing to move on from the topic.
