Online music sales up but overall sales decline

Music companies are selling more records online than ever, but growth in the sale of digital music is not offsetting the slump in the music market

In its annual report into digital music, the industry group IFPI said that sales of albums over the internet were up by a fifth last year, and than more than 1.5 billion single tracks were bought online.
