gTLD TM protection policies take shape

The final recommendations for protecting trade marks in new generic top-level domains are edging closer, but finer details still need work
Last October
the Icann Board asked the Generic Names Support Organisation (GNSO) Council to review two recommendations made by the Implementation Recommendation Team (IRT) on trade mark protection in the new generic top-level domains.
The recommendations are for a trade mark clearing house to protect marks from being registered in new gTLDs and a unified rapid suspension (URS) system for straightforward cases of brand infringement in domains.
The GNSO Council in turn asked the Special Trademarks Issues (STIs) group to discuss the issues and get back with recommendations for the Council to consider.
