USPTO pilot will expedite green patents

The USPTO is to begin a one-year pilot programme to speed up the examination of patents for eco-friendly inventions
The programme was announced on Monday, as world leaders began meeting to discuss solutions to climate change in Copenhagen. The UN Climate Change conference includes about 15,000 participants from 192 countries.
Under the pilot, the Office will accelerate examination of the first 3,000 of its approximately 25,000 pending patent applications related to green technology for which a proper petition is filed, beginning December 8.
A so-called petition to make special must be filed electronically by the applicant before December 8 2010.
