OHIM and WIPO to cooperate on classification

OHIM President Wubbo de Boer and WIPO Director General Francis Gurry signed an agreement to cooperate on trade mark classification at a meeting in Vienna this week

The agreement could lead to harmonisation of classification through an expansion in the number of commonly accepted terms for goods and services worldwide.

Under the project, OHIM will share its classification list of goods and services, which comprises nearly 100,000 terms in 22 European languages.

The list has already been harmonised with the UK, German and Swedish offices, with more EU offices expected to join soon. Switzerland is also interested in...
