Philippines proposes specialist IP courts

The Philippines IP office has proposed revamping the country’s IP enforcement system, in part by establishing specialist IP courts
Other proposals included speeding up trials and making it easier to destroy counterfeit goods.
Adrian Cristobal, director general of the Philippines IP office, presented the special draft rules on IP litigation to Supreme Court chief justice Reynato Puno on October 26.
The rules will apply to patent, trade mark, copyright and unfair competition cases. They were drawn up after a month-long consultation between IP Philippines, IP lawyers, Customs and enforcement officers, judges and IP owners.
