Texas judge slaps Microsoft with $290 million penalty

A judge in the Eastern District of Texas has ordered Microsoft to pay Canadian technology provider i4i more than $290 million for infringing one of i4i’s patents
In May this year, a jury said that Microsoft had wilfully infringed i4isUS Patent No 5,787,499, through use of its XML custom formatting function found in Microsoft Word 2003, Word 2007, NET Framework, and Windows Vista.
