WTO tells China to open up film market

US copyright owners have praised a WTO panel report that asks China to open its markets to imports of films, DVDs and books
But commentators have warned that the WTOs 491 page report, published on August 12, is only one step in the battle to reduce piracy in China.
In April 2007 the US filed two cases against China at the WTO. The second, DS363, focused on Chinese rules that restrict the distribution of US books, music and videos into China.
In a nuanced report, the WTO described some of Chinas actions as "discriminatory" and asked the government to remove restrictions on who can import copyright goods into China.
