Singapore proposes changes to patent system

Managing Intellectual Property

The Intellectual Property Office of Singapore has released a consultation paper on proposed changes to the country's patent system.

One of the changes would alter Singapore's patent system so that patents are only granted after positive examination reports.

At present Singapore operates a system of self-assessment in which the patent applicant decides whether to proceed to grant.

IP owners have until August 14 to comment on the proposed changes.
